Dabbawala: Transporting love with Food
Mumbai dabbawala is a renowned name all over India as well as in the whole world. The only job we do is that we take freshly made food from the customer’s home into tiffin boxes and deliver it to their office, school and other work place. All it looks so simple, but it is not.. we were thousands in number and deliver 200,000 tiffin boxes every day. The important thing about us is that punctuality of time. Every tiffin we deliver reaches to the destination at perfect time and without any mistake. This work is going on continuously from over a century. 125 years ago all it started. All the dabbawalas were not highly educated and most of us were semi literate workers from rural Maharashtra. The team was started from 100 dabbawalas and now it is of became more than 5000 in numbers. As we are the semi literate workers we don’t know the management theories but we got a great successful. This is the reason why many universities, management institutes and big companies invites us for workshop and seminars so that we can share our reason of success. Our success story is exploring in such a way that we were mentioned in the literature as well as we have been featured in many news programs.
