Dabbawalas: Not Less Than a Wonder

         The Dabbawalas, also known as dabbawalla, tiffinwala or dabbewala were the people in the Indian City of Mumbai.  We are known among the world for our great time management. Our daily work is to carry the freshly made food from customer’s home & deliver it to their offices during the lunch time. Daily we deliver 2,00000 tiffins and just 5000 in numbers we are ie; the transaction of 4,00000 tiffin can be done by us everyday with the accuracy of 99.99%. It means only 0.01% chances of mistake. The reason behind that is the dabba reaches to six sigma level of accuracy. The process of delivering dabba was started before 125 years nearly in the year 1880. In the whole process of carrying and delivering dabba(lunch boxes) we cover nearly a 60 kms area and the total time we consume is just 3 hours. For this service we cost only Rs 200/month for per tiffin box. The whole process goes on continuously  without any interruption whole year in the every season including in the heavy monsoon and the hottest summer. In the  all of us were semi literate employees. This makes others feel that our work is not less than a wonder. This is the reason why we were awarded so many times and became the topic for case study among the high level management institutes.
